In this day by day list of things that I don’t know what I’ll do without when I go home, I have to add the person who has truly redefined the word “partner” for me.
Emily and I barely met before getting here. We facebooked a little before coming here about packing and visas, but chose not to get to know each other until we were face to face. We finally met in the London airport. Since then, we have never spent a night apart. Our schedules are different on some days, but at least half the week we are together. We have things we do separately, but we spend so much time telling each other about them that we are practically both there. We can have an entire conversation in a single glance. We finish each others sentences.
We have had our fights, of course, but we reconcile more smoothly than any other relationship I’ve been in. We’re both stressed, and we understand what each other are going through. We argued over who would carry a bag home one day.
But as things get harder here, physically, spiritually, emotionally, and socially, we have drawn closer and closer together. Friendship doesn’t begin to describe it.
I’m not good at describing people, so forgive me for my awkwardness in writing this. I’ll just conclude by saying I love this girl more than the lice that have haunted her for over 3 months. I love that she never judges me when I complain. I love that she knows my talents and acknowledges them to the point of using them. I love that she is willing to sleep in the top bunk, and that she is willing to climb down out of it in the middle of the night to turn the A/C back on since she knows it doesn’t wake me up when it goes off. I love that she surprises me with Pepsi’s or candy. I love that she has an awesome camera and lets me use her pictures for my blogs and Compass articles without giving her credit. I love how much she adores the girls.
So there’s that. And thank the Father for skype and the weekly dates we’ll be able to have when we get home.
