Nine Things

I’ve been having blogger’s block lately. It’s not that I’m not doing anything, it’s just that I’m not doing much different than I’ve been so far and that the things that are different aren’t really blog material, if that makes sense (although my partner’s birthday was yesterday, and was super fun. Happy birthday, Em!) I went back to Free School today, so I figure I had to post something in honor of my old Wednesday schedule. Plus, with the scary stuff going on in the world the past few days and the nature of the country I’m living in, I wanted to let everyone know that we’re all doing just fine here because, despite common misconceptions, the vast majority of people just want peace. I hope you understand that.

Nine weeks from tomorrow, I start my journey home by heading off to debrief, so in honor of that, I thought I’d write a list of nine things I want to do before I leave, in no particular order.

1) Take more pictures. Em and I haven’t brought our cameras to many places to get pictures of the culture because we don’t want to appear too touristy. In the last few weeks, though, we’re going to throw dignity aside and try to capture everything we can.

2) Buy a couple more presents. I know that’s random, but I’ve done almost all of my present-buying and I have one or two difficult people in mind to get things for.

3) Eat fish. Before coming here, I looked this city up and kept seeing all this information about how the seafood is wonderful here. I’ve had fish once, and it was only a small piece. Maybe I should be more touristy.

4) Get more sisters. I know “get” isn’t the best word, but my english is suffering lately, so forgive me. Seeing the four I mentioned a couple weeks ago was so encouraging, but now I’m thirsty for that again.

5) Dunk those. We haven’t gotten a chance to do this yet, but it will be soon.

6) Buy a drum. I’ve grown quite fond of the little drum I get to play in the afternoons during music time at the Center, so I asked a friend and she is going to take me to a shop to get one to take home. It’ll be a pain to carry, but I think it’ll be worth it. Plus, I want to look at what else they have in music shops here.

7) Get my money back. Random, yes. Greedy, yes. But my first flight for my visa run a month ago was cancelled, and they never put the money back in my account like they said they would and they refuse to give cash since I paid with a card. It’s one car payment for me. I’d like it back.

8) Meet my personal goals. I know it’s vague, but I have some reading, memorization, and journaling goals written out in my pr*yer journal that I need to put more energy into meeting.

9) Go to Sea World. That place my friends went a few weeks ago and I couldn’t because of my food poisoning? Yeah, I want to go.

So that’s all. I know they’re not very gra nd or lofty, but that’s reality. I’m soaking up the rest of my time. The girls at the Center have started to ask when we leave, and I tell them July, but I tell them not to talk about it. I’m ready to be home, but I don’t know if I’ll ever be ready to say goodbye. It’s going to be one of the hardest days in my life.

Oh yeah, and my best friend’s birthday is nine weeks from today =)
